Client Overview

Brick.Tech was born out of a personal experience: being locked out of an apartment with a dead phone on a cold night. This incident sparked the idea for a portable phone charging service that gives users the freedom to charge their phones on the go, without being confined to a public charging station. Brick.Tech allows users to rent power banks from one station, charge their devices, and return the power bank to any other station, all within the convenience of a sharing economy model. They approached Amplework Software to help bring this concept to life by developing an MVP that could quickly validate their idea and scale globally.

The Challenge

Brick.Tech’s founders had a brilliant idea, but there were several challenges in transforming this concept into a functional MVP

01 Scalability of the Power Bank Rental Model

Brick.Tech needed a platform that could handle a large volume of users across multiple locations. The system had to allow users to rent power banks from one station and return them at another, all while ensuring accurate tracking and seamless functionality.

02 User Experience & Accessibility

The user experience had to be simple and intuitive. The process of scanning a QR code, renting a power bank, and returning it to another station needed to be easy for first-time users, with minimal friction.

03 Mobile App Development

Brick.Tech required a mobile app that allowed users to locate the nearest charging stations, manage their rentals, and track their usage. The app also had to support payment gateways for quick and secure transactions.

04 Hardware & Software Integration

The MVP had to include seamless integration between the hardware (charging stations and power banks) and the software (mobile app and backend systems), ensuring real-time updates on power bank availability and location tracking.

05 Partnership and Expansion Model

Brick.Tech’s business model relied on partnerships with local businesses and venues. They needed a system that could support rapid expansion into new markets by allowing partners to easily onboard and set up charging stations in their venues.

We began by deeply understanding the problem Brick.Tech was solving. We identified key user pain points, such as the hassle of carrying chargers and the inconvenience of stationary charging points. Through ideation workshops, we mapped out the user journey from renting to returning a power bank, emphasizing simplicity and convenience.

User-Centric Ideation and Strategy

We developed a user-friendly mobile app that allowed users to locate nearby Brick stations, rent a power bank by scanning a QR code, and return it to any station. The app featured real-time updates on station availability, a digital wallet for payment, and a rental history for users to track their charges.

Mobile App Development

The MVP included QR code functionality, where users could scan a code at any station to rent a power bank. The rental process was designed to be as smooth as possible, allowing users to rent, charge, and return power banks within minutes. The system automatically tracked rental time and charges, updating the user’s app in real-time.

QR Code Integration & Rental Process

We worked with Brick.Tech’s hardware team to integrate the charging stations with the mobile app. This included real-time data synchronization, allowing the app to show which stations had available power banks, which power banks were being rented, and where users could return them. Each power bank was equipped with built-in cables for Android, iPhone, and Type-C devices.

Hardware Integration

To support Brick.Tech’s rapid expansion into new markets, we developed a backend system that allowed venues to easily onboard as partners. The system was designed to track each partner’s performance, providing them with real-time data on station usage, rentals, and customer engagement. This made it easy for venues like cafes, airports, and shopping malls to join the Brick.Tech ecosystem.

In-Depth Implementation Process

User Research & Concept Validation

Our team conducted in-depth user research to validate the concept of portable charging through power bank rentals. We tested the idea with focus groups to understand how users would interact with the system and what features were most important. This research guided our design decisions for the MVP, ensuring we focused on solving real-world user pain points.

UX/UI Design & Prototyping

We designed an intuitive, mobile-first user experience, focusing on making the rental process as frictionless as possible. Prototypes were created for the app, showcasing the rental process, QR code scanning, payment integration, and power bank tracking. These prototypes were tested and iterated based on user feedback.

Development & Integration

Our development team built the mobile app and backend systems, integrating real-time updates for power bank availability and station location. We also worked closely with Brick.Tech’s hardware engineers to ensure that the stations could communicate with the app, allowing users to see which stations had power banks available for rent and where they could be returned.

Testing & Iteration

We launched the MVP in select locations to gather real-world feedback. This allowed us to monitor the system’s performance, gather data on user behavior, and identify any issues that needed to be addressed. Based on the feedback, we made several iterations to improve user experience, enhance the speed of transactions, and ensure the app was fully functional across multiple devices.

Post-Launch Support & Scaling

After the MVP launch, we continued to support Brick.Tech by refining the platform, fixing bugs, and optimizing performance. We also worked on scaling the system to support Brick.Tech’s global expansion, ensuring the platform could handle increased user traffic and operations across multiple countries.
